Our small town LOVES garage sales. It's so hard to get stuff here that folks jump at the chance to see what someone else may have acquired from down south that they didn't know they needed. Plus it's as much of a social gathering as a sale. In Anchorage when we had garage sales it was just about getting rid of stuff. You expected to barter and if you made a few bucks it was gravy. Here folks pay asking price without even a question and although we did want to get rid of stuff there was potential for genuine profit. We took four pick-up loads of items we've purged over the last couple years to a multi-family, multi-lodge garage sale. We didn't sell half our stuff but still came home with an extra six Franklins. I think we are going to have to have another sale to try to move the rest of the pile.

We garage saled it last weekend. Had a Visible Grace sale to raise a little more money so we can build something when we're in Kenya. Thankfully, it wasn't at our house. Friday was our best day, we raised $600.
6/26/11 Update: We had another smaller garage sale to try to move the leftover items from the first sale. Again it was very successful. We sold the Tercel and a lot of other stuff. The remaining leftovers have been boxed up for the thrift store or for sale on Ebay. Today reclaim my garage.
